… But I Believe In You

You may recall my mentioning that I don't believe in the stock market. It's true. I've made a killing (on a percentage basis) and I still don't believe in the stock market. I do believe in God. I do believe He wants to bless me, and I do believe He will. I am entirely okay with Him using something I don't believe in to accomplish His purpose. (I suppose if it was unethical the story may be different, but when items are selling on an open market, I cannot consider it unethical to make a profit!)

I think this is hysterically funny. When I first realized how much money I had made, by doing nothing except what I was pretty sure the Lord was leading me to do, I sat and had a giggling fit. How ludicrously funny for the Lord to do this, when I have never, and I mean never, been a fan of the stock market. That, however, brings me to the point: when we are led by the spirit of God, we never know what crazy method He may use. All we know is the desired result.

He's promised healing . but He may prescribe a poultice of figs, a dip in the river, or a mud plaster. I heard of one woman who trained for a marathon (at what she believed to be God's instruction) and at the starting line of the marathon was completely and permanently healed of back pain that had all but disabled her for years. Does that mean everyone who has terrible back pain should train for a marathon? Of course not! That was God's method in her life. His intention is to heal; His method is different for every person.

The fellow who was expounding on this concept made a most interesting statement. He said we should never allow someone else to tell us what the method must be. That, he believed, becomes control. It is the prerogative of the Holy Spirit to instruct us in the method we are to use. In fact, unless the Lord instructs us to go to a certain person for help or advice, even talking to someone about our "problem" can be detrimental at times.

I have more or less believed this for some time, but hearing it put precisely into words was nonetheless exciting. As those who have the spirit of God within us, we have the right to be led by the spirit. It may be the most wonderful right we have. We don't have to run around, getting our specific answers from all the gurus that we know of. We also don't have to run around trying to give everyone else the answers they need. We have access to a personalized plan for our own lives! (We won't discuss how terrifying or exhilarating this is.)

This is such an awesome freedom! I don't have to believe in any method. I can believe in God, and trust Him to choose the method.
