It’s A Conspiracy(Otherwise known as A Good Joke) |
|
Those of you who know me at all well probably know already that I am not a fan of what I call "conspiracy theories," which you may know of as "the government is out to get us." There are primarily three reasons why I am not a fan of these. The first is that every conspiracy theory that I’ve ever heard has the immediate effect of creating fear in the heart of anyone who takes it even remotely seriously. Other than the fear of the Lord, IVve never seen a fear have a positive effect. That is not to say people cannot do what needs to be done in spite of fear—but the driving force in such cases is not the fear itself, but the determination to do what needs to be done. I’ve seen people paralyzed by fear and I’ve seen people do really stupid stuff out of fear, but I’ve never seen anyone who was motivated by fear do anything positive. I’ve also never heard a conspiracy theory that was spoken in faith. In fact, nearly every time you mention God’s power to someone who is in the process of relating a conspiracy theory—even if they believe in God’s power—they don’t like it. Conspiracy theories are all about the power of man, not the power of God. The third reason I am not fond of conspiracy theories (although I thought of this one only tonight) is that they never seem to allow constructive action. For instance, a theory may produce fear, which includes an entire set of hormones released into the body to ready it for action, but since it is only a theory, there is no action to be taken. It’s a little like watching a movie—you are on the sidelines watching, but there is nothing you can do to save the person in danger. Some think going along with or not going along with conspiracy theories is a little like seeing the glass as half empty or as half full. For some, it may be that way. For me, it’s not. I believe it doesn’t matter if the glass if half empty or half full. You see, I don’t question the existence of conspiracies. They’ve existed since the serpent had its first chat with Eve, and they’ve existed in every form imaginable, and a few that most of us couldn’t imagine. The real question isn’t about how you view the glass; the real question is who has control of the glass. I say, God does. And God thinks that conspiracies are the joke of the ages. He sits in the heavens and laughs. He rejoices over us, but He laughs at His enemies. He laughs at people who conspire against Him or against His anointed. Was Babel a problem? Was Jesus’ sealed, guarded tomb a problem? Are emperors or kings or presidents a problem? No way. I propose that we look at conspiracies the way God looks at conspiracies. What a joke! |
